Gotta love the IRS

by @ 8:18 am. Filed under Funny, General

I was reading through IRS publication 17 yesterday (OK, I had it sent to me, im not quite THAT geeky….) and found a couple of interesting sections.

Illegal income.
Illegal income, such as money from dealing illegal drugs, must be included in your income on Form 1040, line 21, or on Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ (Form 1040) if from your self-employment activity.

Stolen property.
If you steal property, you must report its fair market value in your income in the year you steal it unless in the same year, you return it to its rightful owner.

Whats worse is that, if they ever found out, you would probably be in more trouble with the IRS than you would have for stealing/selling drugs in the first place…..

Ever want to return a Method’s name?

by @ 1:24 pm. Filed under VB

Have you ever had the situation where you needed to return a Method’s name? An example of this might be in an error routine, or for logging. The following function will do just that, with no need to hard code the method’s name.

‘Returns a methods name, based on the current stacktrace
Friend Shared Function ReturnSource() As String
       Dim aStack As New System.Diagnostics.StackTrace
       Dim aMethod As System.Reflection.MethodBase
‘Use Frame 1, as Frame 0 is this Method
       aMethod = System.Reflection.MethodInfo.GetMethodFromHandle(aStack.GetFrame(1).GetMethod.MethodHandle)
       Return aMethod.ReflectedType.FullName + “.” + aMethod.Name
End Function

The Emotional Alien Concept

by @ 11:03 am. Filed under General

So here’s a concept I’ve been working on to come up with this REALLY scary alien. I mean there’s kind of been a dry spell for new alien ideas and they’re all starting to look the same. My idea is what if this new alien really didn’t have a definitive look, but rather the concept of these aliens deals with their super strong emotions that kind of rule their lives and personality so it creates this totally unpredictable alien type running around the earth springing unpredictable super powerful emotions on others in an unpredictable fashion. Scary. Very scary.

Like imagine these powerfully emotional aliens come to earth and they are pretty cool and kind of attractive in an alien sort of way. So you make friends with a few and maybe get really close with one. The thing is these aliens have super powerful EMOTIONS! So sometimes these aliens are REALLY nice to you and then suddenly with no real reason the alien kind of turns into super bitchy alien? They’d roar and scratch at you when you least expected it. Wouldn’t that be totally out there and really scary?

I’d probably give these aliens some kind of hypnotic power too that lets them take control of you. Something with the way they move their body and some pheromones they emit. That would make them even more powerful and scarier, because it’d be like you KNOW these things have these super strong, insanely powerful emotions that are going to utterly destroy you but you still can’t resist them.

So it’d be like they have this hypnotic control over you which is kind of nice and they’re kind of nice, but then suddenly the alien switches and now it’s this mean roaring bitchy alien that’s going to devour you, crap you out and then feed you to it’s alien friends who are all going to roar and phreak out over how crappy you taste and they start bitching about that until you are like being chewed up in their mouths and are apologizing for giving them such a bad aftertaste in their mouths even though they are the one who decided to eat you. Freaky, huh?

Yeah, that would be a great concept for an unbelievably scary alien.

I’d run for my life from one of those.
